our team is your team

We pride ourselves on being a boutique creative agency with a wonderfully experienced and talented team.  And, we know a little secret - there is great value in differences.  This seems like such a "little thing", this concept of respecting differences, but to many people in the daily grind of getting things done, this is a lost working principle.

We really truly admire each others' respective talents, and our little differences, help us do the "big things" together. We understand our brains individually work very differently, and recognize, these same differences collectively combined make for powerful communications solutions.   And remember, you join the team and ultimately, we work together with you.  So you become the final key to unlock the creative solutions waiting to be developed ~ and our team becomes your team.

Now, we would really prefer to get to know you personally, but please go ahead and take a peek at some of our team and we look forward to meeting you soon too.

Melanie, Business Development

A graduate of University of Waterloo, studies in genetics, although intellectually inspiring, just “weren’t creative enough”. Two years later, a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, business studies led to sales with an internet service provider, and next to a large web services company ~ launching a career in new media marketing and software solutions.

A leader by nature and competitor at heart Melanie is truly passionate about marketing and relationships.  Inspiration for the launch of Idyliq was driven by a desire to create better relationships between an agency and its clients. With a strength and passion for strategic planning, Melanie has a tremendous energy and desire to help further the marketing initiatives of her clients.   A talented speaker, Melanie presents seminars each year on using integrated communications to build better relationships with customers.  And when asked about Idyliq client relationships all being “idyllic”, in her words, "it makes work feel a lot less like work.”

David, Business Development

Dave spends most of his time finding new work to keep the team busy. An experienced programmer, coding since his early teens, Dave was always a bit of a ‘techie’.  Fast forward a decade or so and Dave now spends considerable time with clients to identify and find solutions to their communication and technical challenges. With a background in coding and development, Dave brings an invaluable technical perspective to all of his projects.

Personally, Dave has a strong sense of commitment to family, friends and community - which are all the same thing in his mind. He brings this keen social sense to the team, and has been instrumental in ensuring the agency follows through on commitments to corporate social responsibility.  With a young and growing family, Dave’s greatest annoyance in life is simply how quickly time passes. In his own words, "It seems that every time I blink a new month has gone by."

Kevin, Creative Development

An accomplished graphic designer, Kevin began his career freelance and found his talent.  Kevin’s role is to produce ideas and concepts which can evolve and morph into finished creative pieces through feedback and creative development. Kevin takes a thrill, however, in creating concepts which achieve or exceed the original goal on the first round. He continuously and pleasantly impresses project teams and clients with his designs.

Formally educated in journalism, Kevin’s experience transcends into traditional marketing with experience in pre-press, Kevin skills include typesetting, illustration, typography, interface design and print file preparation. Kevin's passion for all things creative has evolved into photography and imagery. Kevin is currently working on an impressive personal collection of photography and has brought his exceptional natural talent and knack for all things creative to our clients.

Nik, Creative Development

An eleven year veteran of the advertising agency business, Nik joined “the dark side”, making the move from a traditional agency to join us internet crazy folks.  In his own words, Nik is happiest when he's "creating things".  Need moving images? Nik is a master of multimedia making storyboards come to life.  Also an avid photographer and wildly talented painter, we find Nik way too humble about the creativity in his craft.  Nik just finds he just gets bored easily and so continues to pursue and learn as much as he can about making "creative stuff".

Nik's favourite social activities are the outdoor cinema nights he runs in his driveway during the warmer weather and sitting on his porch jawing with the neighbours. Nik has eclectic tastes in music, films and people and loves to know the latest cultural buzz on the street. Recently, Nik has given up on the novel, and finds it's more relaxing to read comic books after a long day at the office.

Shawn, Project Management

A senior network engineer, Shawn is definitely our security expert.  Working in network engineering for over fifteen year and amassing an experience in LAN and WAN related technology, Shawn brings tremendous experience and stability to our network applications.  Shawn is dedicated to making sure our internet launches happen without a 'hiccup' and clients have the highest level of performance and security in their online solutions. Roles have ranged from project leader, to senior architect, and point-man on projects ranging from maintenance of LAN and WAN facilities, managing ERP systems such as SAP, to the technical implementation of an entire manufacturing plant.

Alongside security and network analysis, Shawn's primary role is to ensure work is done on time, on budget.  Shawn spends considerable time facilitating the dialogue between clients, coders and creatives to ensure projects run smoothly. Shawn’s approach to life and work is simple, "life is much better when you enjoy the company you are keeping ~ so keep good company".

Josh, Programming Development

Josh Dow has a decade of experience working with information technology.  As project leader, Josh provides the liaison between clients and production groups to ensure the highest level of satisfaction on projects.  Providing on-site assistance, both locally and overseas, in addition to lead programming, Josh has participated in managing virtually all technical aspects of coding including training new employees.  Josh is easy going, always smiling and provides the perfect personality to help manage projects.

In his own words: "My business card tells me I'm the project lead but I'll always be a programmer at heart." A survivor of the dot-com-bubble burst, Josh is excited by the phenomenal resurgence and growth of the commercial Internet with the advent of the "Web 3.0 Chapter" and eagerly follows the emergence of new technologies. Outside of work he is kept busy planning and implementing "fun" improvements to his first home. A true child of the seventies, Josh's greatest annoyance is the gross under-use of the cowbell in music today.
